Latest Water Polo update

The U12 and U14 Water Polo teams restarted their matches after the summer break with games against Warrington on  15 September.

The U14s enjoyed a comprehensive 33-1 win in their league match. The U12s travelled to play a friendly against a more experienced Warrington team and suffered a 16-1 defeat.

In other Water Polo news, former Stretford water polo player Annie Clapperton has been in Madeira captaining Great Britain in the European U19 Womens Water Polo Championship. The GB team beat Slovakia, drew with Israel and lost to Hungary and Greece in the group stages. They then went on to beat the Czech Republic and Germany to secure 9th place overall.

Trafford Borough Early Bird meet open for entries

We are hosting the Trafford Borough Early Bird Meet at Stretford Sports Village on Sunday 16 September 2018.

This is a Level 3 meet with 50m and 100m races in each stroke, plus a 100 IM. There will be medals for 1-3rd place and awards for 4-6th place.

Swim team suffers first CL defeat of season

The swim team’s 100% record in the Central Lancashire Intermediate League came to an end with defeat at the hands of a strong Orca SC team.

The final score from Monday night’s gala in Oldham was Orca 197 – 121 Stretford.

Head Coach Tom Pope said afterwards: “Well done to the team racing against Orca tonight. Some tough competition, but fast swimming and happy faces made for a fun evening.”

Swim team secure third straight win in Central Lancashire League

The swimming team secured another excellent win in the Central Lancashire Intermediate League Division 2 to maintain a 100% record for this season.

Friday night’s gala saw the team win 186-126 against Swinton.

National Qualifiers

Well done to our squad swimmers who have qualified for the 2018 National Championships.

The British Summer Championships take place at Ponds Forge in Sheffield from 24-29 July and three of our swimmers secured qualifying times to participate – Reuben Rowbotham-Keating (200m freestyle and 400m Individual Medley), Chiara Tommasello (50m/100m events in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly) and Erin Hoyland (1500m freestyle and 400m Individual Medley).

The English National Championships follow at the same venue from 31 July –  4 August and Chiara (200m freestyle), Erin (800m freestyle and 200m Individual Medley) and Reuben (400m freestyle and 200m butterfly) have also secured qualifying times for them and will be joined there by Jared Armstrong (400m freestyle) and Luca Tommasello (50m freestyle).

Congratulations on a tremendous achievement – and good luck at the championships.

Swim England North West Regional Championships

We had a number of our swimmers competing – either for Stretford or representing City of  Manchester Aquatic Swim Team (COMAST) – over the three weekends of the Swim England North West Regional Championships. These are prestigious championships, involving the top swimmers from across the North West of England, and given the strength of swimming in the region it is an achievement to qualify to compete in them.

Congratulations to all of our swimmers who competed in them.

Particular mention to our swimmers who claimed medals over the weekends while representing COMAST – Erin Hoyland won bronze medals in the 800m freestyle and 400m individual medley, and a silver medal in the 1500m freestyle; Jake Christon won gold medals in the 50m backstroke, 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle, a silver medal in the 50m freestyle and bronze medals in the 100m freestyle and 800m freestyle; Chiara Tommasello won gold medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m and 100m backstroke; Reuben Rowbotham-Keating won gold medals in the 50m/100m/200m butterfly, 100m/200m/400m freestyle, and a silver medal in the 200m Individual Medley.
