Water Polo Under 15 National Age Group Championship October 2016

Stretford ASC Water Polo team contributed 7 players last weekend to the Under 15 City of Manchester Water Polo A team, ultimately winning last weekend’s National Age Group Championships.  Congratulations to:
Callum Fookes (GK)
Thomas Yates
Chris Rhodes
Tom Roche
Luke Roche
Daniel Bentham
Ciaron Byrne

Thanks too to Judy for sending over this report:

The team won the early round matches by a good margin. The semi-final against Ealing was a rough and tough match although eventually the boys disciplined team play and grit enabled them to pull away to win again by a good margin. The final against Caledonia was tense with each team going a goal up at times to end the game play at 6-6. The match was then decided in a penalty shoot out. Stretford was again well represented at this point with Callum Fookes in goal saving Caledonia’s first shot giving Manchester the lead. Chris Rhodes, Thomas Yates, Tom Roche all successfully shot their penalties, leaving the final penalty for Luke Roche – a very stressful moment for all – and then big celebrations for the team as it sailed in.

Stretford was also represented in the City of Mancheter B team by Jerome Walker Sherriff and Harry Bentham. The B team had some tough matches and battled on in good spirits despite some disappointments. However, playing with the B team in the competition provided an opportunity for the younger players to experience the standard of play and atmosphere of a big competition event.

Over the course of two weekends team members from Stretford ASC have been competing against other swimmers across Greater Manchester at the Greater Manchester Autumn Meet.  What a successful two weekends our swimmers had. Medals for some, PBs for all our competitors and whilst there was not a team competition, the suggestion is we were one of the Top 10 performing clubs (parent’s view was Top 3!!!).  We had three swimmers in their first open meet gala, so well done to Saioa Echeverria, Ainara Echeverria and Eleanor Smith.  Congratulations to all and a summary of medals is below.

Additionally Reuben Rowbotham-Keating, Alfie Marrs and Chiara Tomasello were the top swimmers in their respective age groups over the whole meet.

A total of 154 swims, with 120 faster then entry times, 17 Golds, 16 Silver and 11 bronze.  Everybody swam at least 1 PB and a special mention about one of those Erin Hoyland’s swim in 400 IM – her time in this gala was almost as fast as combining her 100m best times from the individual events -“awesome!”

Well done to all!

Club Championship 2016

Our Club Championships is a great gala for swimmers to gain race experience and have the chance to win medals and trophies racing against other members of the club of a similar age. Results are based on the age group that swimmers are in – e.g. the 10/13 years 50 Breast has 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the 10/11 age group, and the same in the 12/13 age group. The ‘open’ events are for swimmers of any age to enter, but don’t let that put you off. I want to encourage as many swimmers as possible to enter – the more swimmers there are, the more fun the galas will be for everyone! Please ask me if you have any questions about which events to enter or how the gala works.
