GM Age Group 2018 (03/04 March)

There was excellent swimming at the weekend from all our swimmers – high proportion of PBs; N.W. Regional Qualifying times from not just squad swimmers but also club swimmers (superb reward for exemplary training and commitment); 17 medals – 10 Champions (Gold), 2 Silver and 5 Bronze.

Well done to all those competing and we’re looking forward to the second weekend of the event, 17th and 18th March.  A reminder to those competing on 18th March, there is the Wigan half marathon on the day… you can still enter if you fancy (deadline Thursday) via the LINK , which also contains, probably more usefully, a map of the route.

Swimmer results from the first weekend are in the link below:

Swim team secures historic league title

Stretford Amateur Swimming Club has stormed to a divisional title in the regional section of the National Arena Swimming League.

The club, which celebrates its 130th anniversary in 2018, secured the North West Division Two title with a dominant display in the final at Lower Broughton Leisure Centre on Saturday (9 December).

Having won the first two rounds of this year’s divisional galas, Stretford went into the final as firm favourites against teams from Lancaster, Chorley, Oswestry, Kendal and Northwich.

And they didn’t disappoint, securing the first divisional title in the club’s history by a winning margin of 60 points.

Stretford Head Coach Tom Pope said: “It was a huge result for the club. Although we’ve achieved promotion in the National Arena League before, the club has never won a divisional title. I’m so proud of this group of swimmers. The fantastic efforts they’ve been making in training are really paying off and they’ve bonded into such a strong team. It really bodes well for the future of the club and we’re really looking forward to competing in Division One next year.”
